Criteria for Placement into Accelerated Mathematics The criteria and attached form will apply to students entering fifth or sixth grade in the school year.
The criteria are designed to identify very high achieving and highly motivated mathematics students, in order to give them the opportunity to participate in accelerated mathematics classes beginning in the 5th grade. Students must meet the eligibility criteria each year, to remain in the accelerated mathematics classes.
The eligibility process involves a point system with students receiving points in the following three areas:
Parents of students who earn at least 11 points based on the criteria, will be notified of their child's opportunity to participate in accelerated mathematics classes.

The criteria are designed to identify very high achieving and highly motivated mathematics students, in order to give them the opportunity to participate in Algebra I in the 7th grade.
The eligibility process involves a point system with students receiving points in the following four areas:
Parents of students who earn at least 15 points based on the criteria, will be notified of their child's opportunity to participate in accelerated mathematics classes.

Eligibility = 15 points
Students successfully completing Algebra I in the seventh grade will take Honors Geometry in eighth grade.
At Kennett Middle
School, our goal is to universally accelerate all students so that they will
complete Algebra I by the end of eighth grade.
Therefore, all
current seventh grade students will take Algebra I in eighth grade if they meet
the following qualifications:
Students successfully completing Algebra I in eighth grade will take Geometry in the ninth grade.
All students not meeting the qualifications for eighth grade Algebra I will have Math 8, a course designed to prepare students for Algebra I in the ninth grade.
